Manar Marzouk
Senior Health Fellow
Manar Marzouk is a Senior Fellow at the Syria Development Centre. She is an implementation researcher and pharmacist with more than a decade of experience in health policy and systems research, particularly in humanitarian and displacement contexts. Her work focuses on non-communicable diseases, maternal and child health, climate change, and health equity, spanning diverse regions including the Middle East, South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and the United Kingdom. She has led qualitative and mixed-methods research in collaboration with international and national partners. Highlights include studies on Type 1 diabetes; research into breast cancer care among Syrian patients in partnership with Yale University and the Syrian American Medical Society; cervical cancer meta-analyses with institutions in Singapore; and work with UNFPA on the impact of COVID-19 on sexual and reproductive health across the Asia-Pacific. Alongside her academic contributions, Manar has been engaged in policy-focused initiatives with UNESCWA, WHO-EMRO, UNICEF, and other regional stakeholders. Her fieldwork comprises more than seven years working directly with displaced populations in Syria through UNICEF, UNHCR, and UK-based charities. She holds an MSc in International Health and Tropical Medicine from the University of Oxford, and a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from the University of Damascus.'
